If  have you heard about this amazing Arma II mod, allow me to introduce you to it. Day Z is the latest zombie mod to hit the Internet, and has been quite successful. Day Z has single-handedly brought interest back into the  two-year-old shooter franchise. Since the mod has become popular, Amazon has had sales for this title, and the developers of Arma has talked with the mod developer and has encouraged him to continue  his development, but what exactly is Day Z? Day Z is the zombie survival horror game. Player spawn in the 225km game world with the only task being to survive. Players not only have to worry about surviving zombie attacks, but also managing their resources, and being on the lookout for other players. Day Z can be a brutal game, but the zombie apocalypse isn’t supposed to be easy. The following is my first 15 min. with Day Z. I hope you enjoy.

I spawn into the world facing the ocean. It’s beautiful but I know I need to move on, turning from the ocean I run up a hill. At the top of the hill, I stumble upon a little village. It looks like your typical small town. I had for the gas station looking for supplies. Hearing the buzz of flies I enter a small hut looking for body. I see nobody but I do find the can of beans. I’m excited about my streak of luck.

I hear gunshots off in the distance to my right, and I decide to investigate. Being by myself, I’d like to find someone else to buddy up with. I just hope they don’t decide to shoot me in the head as soon as they see me, which is always a possibility in this game. Running in the direction of gunshots, I come across my first zombie. I take aim at him, and out of the blue I’m jumped by a second one.I panic and begin to fire randomly at the two approaching zombies. My gun clicks signaling it’s time for me to reload luckily I dropped but the zombies in time. I observed the bodies of my first kill before moving on.

Moving from house to house, I began to clear the village of zombies. After killing a few more zombies the village seems clear, but then I hear growling in the crunching of brush. I look over to see a poor helpless zombie crawling on the ground towards me. I chuckle and watch him as he drags himself across the ground towards me. I wonder if he’s a survivor from the gunshots I heard earlier.

After satisfying my morbid curiosity, I raise my pistol and put his head in my sights. With the squeeze of the trigger he crawls no more.

I continue on my journey to turn the corner of a house to find two more zombies waiting for me. Before I have time to react, they’re running at me frantically. I fire my Makarov. My  shots are not as well-placed as last time, and one catches me as I reload. Shrugging off his blow I put two more bullets into him before he drops. After dispatching both zombies I realize the horrible fact that I’m bleeding. Then I realized an even more horrible fact, that I don’t know had a bandage myself yet. I start spamming every button on my keyboard and looking through the control guide, but I cannot find what I need to do to patch this seeping wound.I began to panic and run off.

Color drain from my world, and I curse my ignorance. I ran into a house I explored earlier.I find nice cozy corner in the house and move to it. I know this is where I will die. At least my final moments will be someplace warm and dry. A few seconds later I collapse from blood loss.

I look at my game timer and realize I’ve only played for 15 min. within that time I killed six zombies and managed to bleed to death. I chuckled to myself, I was hoping to last longer than that. I’m just glad I died before I got any cool loot as there is permadeath  in the game. Although short-lived I did have a fun time. I’m anxious to get back, as soon as I figure out a bandage myself.
